Anyone else struggles with campaign identity?
Hey everyone, hope you are all doing well.
I came here to discuss and ask questions to players all around the ttrpg community, especially DM's.
I've been struggling with my campaign identity for as long as I can remember. I've been DMing for 2 years but played DnD for 5 years since we have 4 DMs in our group (somehow). Ever since I started my own campaign, I wanted it to be different, unique, like all other campaigns but I wasn't sure how. The easiest solution that came to my mind was "just play a different system!" so I DMd Pathfinder 2e. I loved it and my group too!
But I stopped that campaign because things felt weird.. Like I wasn't satisfied with my world I built since it was so heavily inspired by media I consume (rookie mistake I know). Now I want to start a new campaign again because it was so fun with fresh ideas but I ran into this problem again. One of the DM of our group switched his campaign to Pathfinder 2e because we all loved it so much. I feel like my "uniqueness" within our group is gone because of that, so i started to look into Starfinder 2e to differentiate myself again.
But doesn't all of that feel just... wrong?? Like it feels like I'm not doing this because I want to but to be different. I love my group and I know they will love what I do because every DM is different but I don't know...
How do you guys deal with this or am I just really stressed over nothing?
