I was recently in Mexico and rented a car with Europcar. The transaction went relatively smoothly albeit I had to put a $13000 deposit down because I declined LDW insurance. I note the car they gave me had dents all over it but they returned my deposit promptly upon return.
After leaving with the car I realized that I had the basic minimum for Mexican laws Third Party Liability which is the equivalent to $7500. This is obviously a pittance if you’re in an accident.
I understand that my Canadian insurance can’t top me up for TPL in Mexico so the question is, **do you typically buy SLI to top yourselves up?** Do most Mexicans have $1m+ TPL?
Most of the upsell has to do with CDW/LDW not SLI which was surprised about.
Thoughts for next time ?
