Hey everyone, looking for some lawncare and landscaping advice because I’m pretty new to this.
I’m trying to fix up my backyard so we can host some barbecues this summer and let my son play outside with the dog. Right now the yard is a bit rough. My dog dug some holes, and I recently had construction done, so trucks drove over parts of the grass. There’s a lot of bare dirt and uneven spots.
So far, I’ve put some soil/sand in the low areas, and spread some fertilizer and weed killer, but I’m not sure what my next steps should be. My goal is to have nice, thick Bermuda grass by summer.
A few specific questions:
• What’s the best way to revive Bermuda grass in areas that are bare or compacted from construction?
• Is it too late (or too early) to overseed Bermuda?
• Any tips for dealing with dog damage and keeping the grass healthy?
On the landscaping side, I’m also planning to fence in the backyard soon. I was thinking about doing a mulch bed around the perimeter of the yard.
• Is a mulch border around the fence line a good idea?
• Should I plant shrubs, flowers, or keep it simple at first?
• Any beginner-friendly landscaping ideas that look nice but aren’t high maintenance?
I’m in Georgia if that helps with climate recommendations.
Appreciate any advice—trying to learn as I go. Thanks!
