Whats the Best Way to fix swirls all around?

I recently tried to remove the small microscratches and minor swirling all around my car with Turtlewax Scratch and Swirl remover. I realized a few days later that I had instead created more scratches and made my car look much worse. I then tried to use meguiars scratch-x to fix what I had done. This has only made it even worse, and my car now looks like stainless steel when in the sun. When not in direct sunlight, it looks ok. Is this something I can fix properly on my own? Should I throw in the towel and take it to a professional? Any help appreciated
