Hi, I need advice on a situation with my dental clinic.
Back in 2020, I signed a contract with a dental clinic for orthodontic treatment (braces) under an installment plan. I consistently paid monthly and have now fully paid the contract.
It’s now 2026, and my treatment is still not complete—my teeth still have gaps and alignment issues. I’ve been regularly attending my appointments (only missed around 2–3 months total).
Recently, the clinic informed me (verbally and via a posted notice) that they now have a new policy: fully paid patients must pay x amount per adjustment visit if treatment exceeds 24–36 months.
This fee nor the length of months was never mentioned in my original contract.
When I raised my concern, they told me that if I don’t agree to pay the new fee, my only option is to stop treatment and have my braces removed, even though my teeth are not yet fixed.
I already emailed them asking for clarification and now I’m waiting for their response.
My questions:
Is it legal for them to charge new fees after I’ve fully paid, even if it wasn’t in the contract?
Can they refuse to continue treatment unless I pay?
If they stop treatment, do I have grounds to demand a refund (full or partial)?
Should I send a demand letter or report them to the Department of Trade and Industry?
Any advice or similar experiences would really help. Thanks!
