82nd group army recon troops during a recent exercise.

Source: http://www.81.cn/bz_208549/jdt_208550/16461327.html

Previously each group army would have a spec ops brigade similar in role to US army rangers; this has now been changed to each theater command(+xinjiang and xizang military districts keeping their spec ops brigades) having a spec ops brigade with a role more similar to US green berets while the role of "army rangers" would be kept by recon soldiers.

Footage of PAP spec ops capturing a murderer. December 26-9, 2022. (PAP Guangxi corps hezhou detachment special operations platoon)

Video source: 澎湃新闻(the paper); some info also originated from china national radio and weibo account 一号哨位(outpost one; essentially a chinese veteran organization)

Full context:

In December 26, 2022, at Nanxiang town, Babu district, in the city of Hezhou, guangxi, a man(surnamed Cheng(程)) murdered two people with a knife before escaping into the mountains; after local police requested assistance from the people's armed police(full time military similar to army national guard), they arrived to conduct a large scale manhunt in the nearby woods(alongside local police, volunteers and standard PAP soldiers).

after 60 hours of continuous searching(along with use of thermals and drones), Cheng was found on a mountain near a cave and arrestted.

Most oddly specific law/bylaw/regulation in your country?

I was at my local playground one day, and i decided to be a bit of a nerd and read the HK Pleasure ground bylaw.

Article 16 states:

>Subject to the provisions of section 18, no person shall, in any pleasure ground, wilfully or negligently throw or discharge any missile or shoot with any gun, airgun, bow and arrow or catapult or other devices.

Yes, I cannot shoot a missile inside a playground. ( https://www.elegislation.gov.hk/hk/cap132BC for the law if you want)

Also, not really a bylaw but still gov regulation, i was reading maining chinese police college entry requirements the other day( https://www.cppu.edu.cn/info/1036/3030.htm ) and they are very oddly specific about body conditions that cause disqualifications; E.g. No body odor(this i can get behind), no deformed breasts, no skin diesease(and also listing out the skin diseases). I sort of can get behind this but it's also very oddly specific.

WJ-03(ZSL92 internal security vehicle variant) of the Zhongshan SWAT team in the early 2000s; The WJ-03 is no longer used in local police who now have specialized SWAT vehicles such as the saber tooth tiger while the People's armed police still uses it's newer WJ-03B variant.

Difference between SWAT and people's armed police is SWAT listens to local police, while people's armed police is an active service military force similar to army national guard(but full time)

essentially, the ZSL92/WZ551 family had three variants used by the PAP and local police:

  • WJ-94: 4x4 variant used by PAP; very rarely seen nowadays
  • WJ-03: 6x6 variant used by PAP and SWAT; also rather rare nowadays
    • WJ-03B: new variant, still used by PAP
  • GA-06: 4x4 variant used by SWAT during overseas UN peacekeeping missions

Nowadays local SWAT typically uses the Saber tooth tiger(chinese modified F550) or T-rex(chinese modified Ram 5500) SWAT vehicles that are more dedicated to this role; UN peacekeeping police is no longer managed by local SWAT but rather secret service who use the VP11(also known as the snow wolf) MRAP.

Coastguardsman(private first class) of the Shanghai Border defense corps Coast guard flotilla(now Shanghai coast guard bureau) with a twin 14.5mm machine gun. Early 2000s. In the background is Type 218A patrol boat Haijing 31021(海警31021)

I do not know what boat the coastguardsman is from but judging from the machine gun it's likely part of the type 218 series(218, 218A, 218AI, 218AIII) etc; potenetially type 318 but that's from the late 2000s and i haven't seen 318s in the early 2000s livery.

Vessels of the PLA Information support force.(eastern theater command, unknown unit) Likely 2026. These boats are presumably for transportation.

Video source: https://m.weibo.cn/detail/5299937617119254

Xinhua article: https://www.news.cn/milpro/20251219/588c0f6b546246eda6688a3277f56b26/c.html

Ships i could see(in order, left to right, back to front):

YD127: type 271II landing craft. very common in non-PLAN vessels units, almost certainly for transport

White boat(behind the YG123): type 684 dispatch boat: also very common in PLAGF, mostly for island garrisons, intresting to see it here

YG123: unknown class; G means 工程船(Gōngchéngchuán) or engineering ship; this usually is for stuff like cablelayers and dredgers. i think it's very likely cablelayers since information support force does stuff like electronic warfare and psychological warfare so having cablelayeds actually isn't unsuprising

YD125: Also type 271II landing craft

ship behind YD125 is likely an oiler or water tanker

Unknown tugboat

YY102: unknown class of transport ship

YU107: unknown class of oiler

unknown tugboat in front of YU107

Idk if PLAISF has island bases though base 311(psychological warfare base) is in fuzhou which has a lot of islands so i won't be surpsied honestly

PLAISF bases are very obscure and don't go on camera a lot. And again, a reminder that confidential info is not allowed on this subreddit.

Outdated article(outdated by two years in fact) on the Nanjiao 90(南交90) dispatch boats

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nanjiao_90-class_dispatch_boat

According to this post ( https://m.weibo.cn/detail/4791427891201982 ) by the People's liberation army southern theater command themselves(on weibo), Nanjiao 90(南交90) and Nanjiao 91(南交91), both boats were officially decommissioned in July 12, 2022.

post also mentions the boats have a tonnage of 100 tonnes and entered service in 1999.

It's crazy how awful the info on english wikipedia on the PLA is considering how much info the chinese governemnt themselves release on the PLA; it honestly sometimes feels like the entirety of english wikipedia is not able to read chinese.
