The world would be a great place if everyone had a hobby

This is something I've been thinking for a while.

I think a lot of problems in our world would be solved if everyone had a hobby. Nothing too fancy, not even something they need to put a lot of money into. Just something that gives them a reason to wake up.

Of course this could be seen as everyone needing a meaning or a reason to live, but I'm not going into that direction.

I think we all need hobbies. It's scientifically proven. They are necessary for our well-being, but an underrated aspect about it is how many people make bad decisions just because they don't have a hobby.

Let's go with gaming, one of those hobbies that lots of people see as immature or life consuming. The person who plays games has something to look forward, expects new releases and/or wants to go home every afternoon to play that game that has them hooked.

The person who doesn't have any hobby and spends the day scrolling or just complaining about life feels empty. Depending on how they think, will make a series of bad decisions: talk bad about people for entertainment, focus on empty things as consuming or have a kid to fill the void.

I don't want to generalize and I hope you get my point. I.e. tere's people who enjoy working 24/7 (which isn't healthy imo because it turns everything into being productive, but that's another topic), but I think hobbies are underrated as a way of just avoiding having too much time to make bad decisions.
