Need Advice about joining local 58
I am currently non union and ready to test. I tried to get in earlier as a second year but there was a wait list and a random steward I saw on a job site said it would be better to get my card first and then start the process. this has been my plan for a few years.
Fast forward to this week. A lady came to my door about a job fair. All the companies listed i recognized on her flyer are large union contractors. Hower I saw nothing that stated IBEW on it.
Its today and I plan on going to it. They seem to be direct hiring card holders and people with 6500 work hours. Is this a legit thing? I always thought you had to go to the hall for employment. I figure id already catch a little shit from some for not going through the IBEW apprenticeship for awhile. This fair however seems like some sort of super backdoor shenanigans.
