I’ve had this built, primed and sitting in my garage modeling cabinet for a year, hesitant to paint it because I was still unconfident in my technique after 2 other Shermans since I could never get them to look perfectly like the guide videos.
Got into the Bolt Action game recently and decided I need to get this done before I make any gaming minis, and I just did my own thing with it. Still pre shaded and mixed up a base coat and top coat of OD, chipping didn’t work out on this one but I saved myself from over weathering it and I finally have a model where details are visible. Had a couple of issues, my old VMS varnish is I guess expired and I ended up with a mess on the turret that didn’t cure well (Easter egg blemish visible in the pics), I tried AK ultra matte for the first time and was seriously impressed.
Only real thing I can’t get down is how to retain feathered pigment based weathering through the final clear coat. The dust effects are more or less gone, but it’s good enough for the shelf. I have a PE antenna for it that will probably get added, but have run out of resin .50 cals. The Tamiya one doesn’t look good enough to bother with so it’ll probably just not have a gun for a while…
