What do I do about this final utility bill?

What do I do about this final utility bill?

I just moved out of a ~500 sq ft studio apartment and got hit with a $285 utility charge for my final month.
What’s weird is:

  1. The building doesn’t use Con Edison directly, so I never had access to actual meter readings or usage data
  2. In the entire 12 months I lived there, my utilities NEVER went over $100
Now suddenly my final bill is almost 3x higher after moving out
  3. I checked the payment ledger and there are also a bunch of confusing “move out credits” and reversed charges that make it hard to tell what I actually owe.

Is this normal for NYC apartment buildings that use third-party utility billing? Can landlords/property managers legally charge this without showing usage details? And has anyone successfully disputed something like this before?

Trying to figure out if I’m getting screwed over or if there’s some normal end-of-lease adjustment I’m missing.
