Timber Turkeys are just different
Let me just put on my clown suit and sit against a tree cause good lord I'm bad at this.
Second year out, first year I hunted a field and got a bird. This year hunting public in the woods with minimal pressure area.
First Bird, came out of left field and wasnt even remotely close to the 3 birds I was after on the roost. Came in gobbling like crazy early morning, then just stopped 15-20 yards spitting/drumming. Poked his head out enough I tried a shot through some brush and ended up missing. Not one I was to upset about
Second bird, called in mid morning from God knows where, off private i assume. Came in pretty hot also, had a hen/jake decoy that it was twirling around 10 yards off, shot and just completely missed, shot again and missed again. Absolutely uncalled for.
Third bird, called in mid morning, very timid compared to the others, rolled up behind me on a ridge I shouldve been on, strutted and rolled off the back of the ridge. Clucked and purr a couple times and thought he was farther away working away from me. Tried to close distance after him and poked my head just a tiny bit above the ridge and we locked eyes and tore off into private.
These birds are gonna drive me insane on top of having a god awful shot. I have 2 days left in northern WI and then the last 2 weeks in central WI. Lord help me.
