Had a loop recorder (ILR) for 4 years to monitor infrequent Afib, but it got fried during my cardioversion. Had a successful PFA ablation 5 weeks ago. My cardiologist said they don’t usually implant a second recorder, but my EP agreed to remove the old one and implant a new one. I think 24/7 monitoring will alleviate some of my anxiety and provide more comprehensive data than my Apple watch.

Several posts here say the ILR is not necessary and the watch and/or Kardia is sufficient. I’d appreciate any thoughts on why one would prefer external monitoring over internal. Thank you.

Had one days long Afib episode in September 2025. Nothing since but had an ablation one month ago. EP took me off Metropolol and Multaq a week ago. Resting heart rate prior to ablation was around 72. After ablation, it was 84. Three days ago my heart rate started jumping to 106 in the afternoon. Nurse practitioner said stay off the medication and take Metropolol as needed. Yesterday, heart rate jumped to 113. Today it’s 122. That’s after taking the medication.

Have a call into the EP but they take days to respond. Causing me serious anxiety. EKG at primary yesterday was perfect. Echo was normal. No Afib detected or warnings on my watch.

In your experience, is this daily rapid heart rate normal after ablation?
