Not done but pretty close. Need to turn some bases for the front and anchor it to the wall. A lot of lead paint to remove, but my house is 120+ so been doing it for years with all the precautions and such. This one has been a fun project. I hate wood painted white. Citristrip, lead paint heater, over hundred hours of sanding, some wood bleaching and then 3 coats of stain.

A Work of Demons is the first of the Ashfyre series. 245,000 words of Epic Fantasy mixed with grimdark, and romance.  This is the first book of the World of the Thinlands.

Nyd wanted only enough coin to live quietly and be left alone. Selka never believed in better, only in surviving what came next. Malda trusted strength and little else. Colm was slated to be executed for a crime he had no choice but to commit. None of them were meant for princes, armies, or the long shadow of old legends. But this is a world where brutal kings call conquest destiny, where conniving princes dress ambition in the language of justice, and where knights, polished in iron and prayer, prove anything but honorable. In such a place, ordinary lives are kindling.

Hunted by Tal’s butchers and drawn into Baladur’s fragile succession, the three fugitives are caught between brothers who speak of loyalty while honing blades for war. Each must decide what they believe about power, whether it can ever be wielded justly, and what they are willing to lose to survive its pull.  While elsewhere a young man takes his first steps to become a member of an Order that answers to no law but it’s own.

Told through the shifting perspectives of multiple ordinary souls swept into extraordinary violence, this is a grim tale of ambition, betrayal, and the terrible cost of believing that this time, the world might be remade without blood.

The Gallows Crown is the second book of the Espa Chronicle, a massive epic fantasy series that tells the story of the Raakonian Empire, Val E Naa wastes, and the High Elven Kingdom. It begins with a war between two nations with interlocking characters trying their best to survive, find meaning, and build a better future in the most desolate and harsh of places. Around them circles the intrigues of politics, religion, honor, and magic. Their tale is one of war, hardship, and a struggle against all odds to survive. In the land of the Bulvi, the common man suffers under the traditions of the past, and the horrors of invasion. In the land of the Raakonian Empire of Man, great progress lives among political intrigue of the highest order, but corruption runs deep.

Eruch is a swordsman in the wasteland of the Val E Naa without cause or banner, wandering the land to ply his skills and find something worth fighting for. Volstaff hides the secrets of his identity amid his enemy. He seeks knowledge of the savages by living among them, and quickly finds their ways to have honor, which struggles against his duty to the Empire. Briel struggles to survive in a land where she only knows war. General Ward Holstamp Tomas seeks glory to cement his name into the imperial histories, even if it means defying the throne. The twin witches Varilla and Peela search for a powerful artifact to make their mark on the world. Young and fearless they are scholars among a people who disdain knowledge. Elise serves the legion but finds doubt in the actions of superiors. The Dragon Emperor, most feared of all, tries to maintain the delicate balance of power in his nation.

Epic fantasy. Grimdark, and elements of Dark Fantasy. Romance and occasional spice. Deep characters and long plot arcs. Mercenaries. Welcome to the Freebooters.

Plankholder is the gripping second installment in the Freebooters series and the twelfth entry in the sweeping Espa Chronicle.

This chapter delves deeper into the world of the Freebooters, a legendary millennia-old mercenary company renowned for their unorthodox strategies and unshakable bonds of loyalty.

Follow the rise of Jael, once dismissed as “Piss,” now carving a name for himself as the protégé of the legendary swordsman Eruch, the Twilight Blade. Alongside him stands Danni Singlehand, a one-armed thief with an indomitable spirit, as they unravel the mysteries of an ancient tomb.

Meanwhile, Urskine, the gruff yet noble captain, grapples with the weight of leadership and age, while Tonkes, a former able man, begins to find his voice in the hierarchy. At the heart of it all is Varilla, the enigmatic witch of the wastes turned Archmagus, balancing her powerful magic and her role as a mother raising children in the Freebooters’ unpredictable world.

Blending epic fantasy, high-stakes adventure, political intrigue, and heartfelt romance, Plankholder is a thrilling exploration of camaraderie, resilience, and the pursuit of purpose through the eyes of mercenaries who dare to dream of something more.

Requested buyback on 11/24/2024. And then again 2 more times in 2025. All of them were consolidated to one request.

Got the email yesterday.

I paid it over the phone with MOHELA today and had them note it. Then sent a follow up email to them, the CEO and the ombudsmen (because I hate MoHela) for admin forbearance.

When will I get the golden ticket? Etc?

Epic Fantasy. Adventure. Swords and Sorcery. A touch of Grimdark.

Jael Lyonheart and Genna the Lark walked away from the Freebooters, from a life of blood and contracts, to forge something different: a knighthood that serves no lord, no king, only justice. But building an order from nothing is no easy feat. With only a handful of loyal companions, Lucius, a scholar-magus with a righteous heart; Bassion, a quiet killer seeking redemption; Rema, a slaver-turned-squire paying her penance; and Gaulhammer, an orc who has never known true freedom, Jael and Genna set out to carve their own place in the world.

Their first steps take them to Sela, the smaller cousin to the Freeport of Braid, a city of merchants, wayfarers, and opportunity. A lost heirloom. A child rescued from slaughter. A powerful magnate who needs their blades to stand against corruption. With each deed, the Order of the Lark begins to take shape, not just in name, but in purpose.

But even as they swear their oaths and build their code, the past is never far behind. Jael cannot forget the Freebooters, nor the man who was once his brother but chose the path of cruelty. Genna carries the weight of her own scars, of chains she broke but can never forget. And the question remains, can a band of warriors truly change the world, or will the world change them first?

Rise of the Lark picks up after Freebooters 10: A Parting of Blades and launches a new standalone series in the World of Espa. For those who have followed the Freebooters’ journey, this is the next step: the founding of a knighthood that answers only to its own principles. For new readers, this is where a new legend begins.

Epic Fantasy. A bit of Grimdark. A touch of romance. Deep characters, big plots, and sword & sorcery. Welcome to the Freebooters.

The Witch and the Blade follows the journey of Eruch, the Twilight Blade, as he struggles to rebuild his shattered life in the wake of costly mistakes during the Libertan War (at the conclusion of the Espa Chronicle). Seeking redemption and purpose, Eruch joins the Freebooters, a millennia-old mercenary company that thrives on unorthodox methods and loyalty.

Parallel to Eruch's story is that of his estranged wife, Varilla, the Witch of the Wastes. Rising to prominence within the Bulvi’s court, she shapes a new destiny of power and rebuilding for the wastes. Their paths, once bound by love and tragedy, are destined to cross again.

Meet the unforgettable Freebooters: Captain Urskine, the steadfast leader; Lincoln Headcleaver, the congenial enforcer; Sammy, the sly mouth; Hammer Red, Tonkes, Danni Singlehand; and the brash youth, Piss. Together, they navigate the treacherous waters of the Freeport of Braid, tying together lingering threads from the wider Espa Chronicle while introducing a vibrant new land beyond Raakonia and the Val E Naa Wastes.

The Witch and the Blade offers a gripping blend of action, intrigue, and heartfelt moments as it weaves together the lives of warriors, witches, and mercenaries in an epic tale of love, loss, and redemption.
