[ALL] A short discussion on time periods and nostalgia
The first LOZ game was released in 1986 to great reviews and the next one was released the following year. November of 1998, Ocarina of Time was the first 3d LOZ game to be released. From what I can find, there are currently 7 of the LOZ games that can be purchased on the switch and another few can be found on the classic games library. This brings me now to what I'm talking about.
Because of the time period when I was born, i did not experience the 80s, or the 90s, or most of the early 2000s. I was not there when all of those games released and so I can not experience the hype all of these games had at the time. Most of their endings are spoiled for me and they are not usually the designs that pop up in my head when I think of LOZ.
However, because BOTW and TOTK are the first ones I played, those are going to be the games I am nostalgic for in 50 or so years.
And I feel that in online spaces, there is a lot of rejecting the newer games and you're only a true fan if you've played the older games and know all the lore. You judt had to have been there to understand. And yes some of that may be true, but I don't like the playing style of the older games. I've tried playing them but I like open worlds where I have time to explore. Yes it's silly that Zelda tells you she's in danger and it's urgent and then you spend 200 hours doing anything but beating the game.
But that's what I like about it. There's so much to do and see and plus I don't really like the older designs of Zelda. Just not my cup of tea. But anyways, that's all I wanted to say.
