Rs3 mini gimbal + Iphone setup

Can anyone help with setting up an iPhone on a gimbal properly?

I’m having issues balancing it with both the original camera mount that came with the gimbal and the MagSafe mount (Neewer DS028) that I bought 2 days ago.

Does anyone have advice on what gear/setup I should use to balance this correctly without wasting more money?

Things I’ve tried so far:

  1. Balancing with the camera facing backwards and rotating the phone 180°
    • This actually works pretty well, but it limits the mobility/range of the gimbal.
  2. Trying different mounts
    • Still ends up unbalanced.
  3. Extending the MagSafe mount
    • Helps slightly, but it becomes annoying because the setup is hard to replicate every time I fold and unfold the gimbal.

I can balance it if the camera faces toward me, but not when facing away from me.

I’ve seen people use camera plates/counterweights attached to the gimbal, but I don’t want to keep buying gear unless it’s actually necessary.

FYI:

  • I originally bought this gimbal for my Sony a6300.
  • Recently I wanted to switch to iPhone filming so I could carry less gear.
  • I also bought ND filters for my phone, which add extra weight and make balancing even harder.

I’ve also tried the DJI Osmo Mobile 6, and it works fine until I attach the ND filters — then the phone becomes too heavy for the motors.

Any tips, setups, or gear recommendations would be appreciated.
