Listen, are we prefect? Absolutely not.
But, with the currently landscape of the NFC, we don't actually have too be.
National Pendants are claiming that we haven't done enough around the Offense to make Jayden's job easier, and local fans are worried about what the offense would be without Terry in the line.
But, fundamentally, 2026 Washington Commanders are the most talented team we've had here in DC since the 2015 Washington Redskins Roster that lost to Aaron Rogers and the Greenbay Packers in the Wild Card Round.
Major Investments over the past couple of years have been made to the Secondary with the drafting of both Mikey Sainristil and Trey Amos. And, besides losing Jeremy Chinn in 2025, investing in Will Harris and Nick Cross. Solidify the talent and communication of the Secondary overall.
Besides Dan Quinn mentioning Bobby Wagner's return "not being out of the question," General Manager Adam Peters has infused the LB room with both "youth and speed." Leo Chanel, Frankie Luvu and Sonny Styles are arguably the most talented LB room in the league. (Not that I'll argue that, btw.) Adding versatility and playmaking ability to the defense.
Last offseason, when asked about the departing of Donte Flower Jr. to the Dallas Cowboys, then Defense Coordinator Joe Whitt commented that, before the 2024 season "no one saw" that level of production from Flower happening before the season. Basically, inferring that his defense made Flower productive, and not the other way round.
Whitt has since been replaced, because of that level of ignorance on defense.
In comes Daronté Jones from the Minnesota Vikings with a renewed investment in Pass Rush, and the importance of a deep DE and DL rotation on defense. All, of which, gives Jayden room to play without the stress of having to score on every drive.
But, that's not the only changes talent wise.
Adam Peters and newly minted Offensive Coordinator David Blough are introducing a scheme that deleverages the Quarterback, and creates opening in the passing game without stressing the QB to excessively use their legs as checkdown options.
Because of Jayden's abilities with the deep ball. Defenses had adjusted and, former Offensive Coordinator, Kliff Kingsbury refused to adjust his offensive mentality leading to an unprepared Offensive against high quality teams. But, tape doesn't lie.
2025 was marked with injuries, and being "under-armed," against the more skilled teams. Focusing on the inside of the offense with the signing of Chig Okonkwo, Dyami Brown and drafting Antonio Williams. Players that produce in the middle of the field, and create yards after catch, an element that's been missing in the offense since the departure of Jamison Crowder and Olamide Zacchaeus.
Honestly, these improvements and the development of players like Luke McCaffery and Josh Conerly with a healthy full off-season from Treylon Burks. make for a much improved overall roster from head to toe, and the most talented team Jayden has been surrounded with since coming out of college at LSU.
