Using Dutch for Smoking?

As the title says smoking in the Dutch Oven, not using a Dutch oven in the smoker.

I am wondering if I could do something like have a heat source under a cast iron Dutch oven and then in the bottom of the Dutch oven I would have wood chips. Then over that I would have a trivet with a foil tray with some meat in it (thinking pork butt).

Has anyone tried this? Am I crazy or could this work?

The reason I ask this is we do primitive camping for historical reenacting (French and Indian War) and I’d like to try and smoke something in camp while still keeping things “historically correct”.

Uploaded the VIN from a 2004 Accord just purchased for my son. He turns 16 in Sept and I now have time to fix things to make sure it is safe and reliable for him.

Brakes: The previous owner told me that it needs brakes done. It feels solid, but there is a small grinding noise from front driver side which goes away after driving for a bit. I have taken to my local shop for a pre purchase inspection. They said that the brakes have plenty of life left and that the sound is some rust on the rotors that can buildup after sitting for a bit. In fact this checks out when I’ve driven it, the noise does go away. The really odd thing is when I have reviewed the previously logged maintenance there is a lot of brake services. For context the car only has 87,500 miles on it now. In the previous logs it has:

-2014 @ 57k miles rotors resurfaced and front pads replaced.

-2017 @ 63k miles break lines replaced/repaired and fluid flushed/changed

-2019 @ 65k miles rotors, pads, shoes replaced

-2021 @ 73k miles rotors (front) replaced, pads replaced, rotors resurfaced (maybe rear?)

So I’m now wondering if the previous owner just got brakes done when it wasn’t really needed or what. Or perhaps their shop was just telling them that it was needed to make some $?

Any thoughts on this?

I think my next step will be to get a good peek at the rotors and pads myself (obviously). Just need to make some time to do so.
