Hey Everyone,

Excited to be planning another trip to your beautiful country, this time to Northern Italy (we have done Rome/Florence and Amalfi already).

Would love some advice/recs on our current itinerary since this sub has helped a lot with our previous trips. Here is what we have built out so far.

August 28th- land in Milan around 12pm, train straight to Varenna and spend the night in Varenna. (We have spent a day in Milan so no need to spend a night there)

29th- Lake Como day, Ferry hop, dinner on the water

30th- Train in the morning to Verona, explore Verona and see an Opera in the outdoor amphitheater.

Sept 1- rent a car in Verona- drive to Dolomites (thinking we will stay in Ortesei or Cortina d’Ampezzo). Do a short hike, explore the town.

Sept 2- Tre Cime di Lavaredo

Sept 3- Seceda

Sept 4- Lago di Braies

Sept 5- Lagazuoi or relax day at the hotel/spa day

Sept 6- drive to Venice, return rental car check into hotel and explore

Sept 7- explore Venice

Sept 8- Fly home

My biggest questions are-

Is adding Lake Como at the beginning too much?

Are the spots we plan to see in the Dolomites a good mix to see the diversity of the park? We are fairly average hikers and can do 4-5 hour long hikes but also will take a cable car if available like at Seceda to save time.

I’m a little worried about renting a car to explore the Dolomites since they are closing some roads in Sept so any advice there is also appreciated.

Thank you in advance for any recommendations and advice!
