Hey y'all, wanted to try and get some insight here. I'm starting on Adult Development League/Learn to Play next week, and I'm looking to see if there's anything from the basics that I'm missing, or things I should be focusing on beyond the obvious.
I've been skating consistently for about 4 months now, when through the first couple levels of learn to skate, took a 6 week skills & conditioning class (which kicked my ass, lol), and hit the ice for open skating and stick & puck at least 4-5 hours total a week. Obviously I'm not what most would call a "good" skater, but I think I'm at least competent.
The Good-
Forward and backward are comfortable for me, no issues there, though I'm working on faster starts from a stop. Left turn crossovers are very comfortable, right turn less so but I'm working on them. Stopping on both sides isn't an issue, stopping backwards isn't either. Forward to backward turns and vise versa are solid, on both sides. Tight turns aren't bad, but I can always work more on going to the right of course.
The Not So Good-
Backwards crossovers are non existent, I'm just having a hard time wrapping my brain around the movement and mechanics of them, but it's a work in progress. My shots are.... Not the best, but not terrible? I can consistently get the puck in the net, sometimes in the general area I want it to go, and even past goalies on occasion. I'd like to get more heat on my shots, as well as more consistent accuracy, but I know that comes with time and practice.
I guess what it comes down to, is am I missing anything glaringly obvious, and/or what should I maintain focus on in order to be successful as both an individual and a teammate?
Thanks in advance!
