I’ve got a pile of old string/fairy lights that each take 3 × LR44 button batteries in a little pack. The batteries are long dead.

From another project, I’ve ended up with a bunch of CR2025 coin cells and holders.

Before I start soldering things I may regret… is there a sensible way to power these lights using the CR2025s instead?

I know the voltages aren’t identical per cell (LR44 ≈ 1.5 V, CR2025 ≈ 3 V), and I’m guessing current draw might be the bigger issue than voltage. I’m happy to rewire or add resistors if needed — just not sure if this is feasible or a “you’ll drain them in 10 minutes and/or cook something” situation.

Has anyone tried something similar or can sanity-check whether this is workable?
