I’m currently looking at whether upgrading from my M1 Pro MBP (32GB/1TB) to an M5 Pro (48GB/2TB) is in any way a smart thing to do.
I mainly edit commercials and content in DaVinci Resolve shot on Sony FX6s and FX3s (UHD XAVC-I @25fps) with the occasional Alexa ARRIRAW/ProRes 4444 project in between. The main thing I’d want to reduce is render times. When rendering a 30min video or so (h264, mp4, UHD @25fps, 20.000Kbit/s), it usually renders in real time and I was wondering if there is any chance an M5 Pro shortens that time.
I’m aware that a Max chip would make a bigger dent in shortening render times but, due to budget constraints and the fact that I originally wanted to invest in an M4 Max Mac Studio which is nowhere to be found in stock (new or used) where I live + I simply can’t be bothered to spend another 1000€ on top for a portable M5 Max, that’s unfortunately not an option.
