What to do with old 2011 sedan?
Hello, I am trying to figure out what to do with my 2011 sedan. I bought a new car (ev) on New Year’s Eve 2024 but held on to the old tsx since it was such a great car for so many years. I bought it new in 2011.
It has been sitting in the garage for several months and the battery is drained, so I need to jump it (will try this weekend) or perhaps get a new battery. Carvana offered $1,400. I could maybe get a little more selling it locally. Assuming the months of dead battery and nonuse didn’t create other issues.
I could continue to hold on to it or sell it. I initially thought I would want two cars or perhaps leave one at my parents house out of state so i could fly to visit versus drive and then have a car available to me. But that seems like too much of a hassle at this point.
255,000 miles, majority highway driving in the northeast.
New-ish tires (~3-4 months of use)
New-ish front brakes (~6 months of use)
Otherwise it is in decent condition for its age. Normal wear and tear from 13+ years of daily driving, but well cared for. I even have a set of snow tires for it with some life left on them.
I’m not sure why I’m hanging on to it. It could just be the sunk cost fallacy gnawing at me since I did the tires/brakes in the summer before buying the ev, or the fear that I’ll need another car if something happens and have to pay lots more for something I already have. But I probably don’t need it and it’s taking up garage space. And I have an ev so I’m not itching to suddenly start paying $5 a gallon for premium gas to get 1/5th of the mpg equivalent of the ev. That said, these things can last (practically) forever! Am I crazy to get rid of my old friend?
What would you do? I don’t desperately need the money. I also don’t need the car.
