M 21 have been dealing with intense nightmares that feel as if they’re days or weeks long.

I’ve been having these since I was around 12-13, it’s like 75% of the time I go to sleep I will have dreams that feel so real and last so long that when I’ve woken up I’m often in a panic or extremely confused. Most of these dreams involve the same people or scenarios as well as violence inflicted on me but my dreams are never recurring or the same. One could be me losing my family (single father of 1 with split custody) Or it could just be me being murdered in a brutal or violent way that drags out. This has started to effect my day to day life as if I’m too deep into a nightmare I won’t wake up for anything and even when I do wake up on time It takes a couple minutes for me to realize I’m not dreaming anymore. These dreams are highly detailed there’s never anything that felt off or unrealistic and they often feel as though I was dreaming for a multiple days. I’ve tried to find out what this is on my own and soon I’ll be visiting a doctor but I was just wondering if anyone else has ever had to deal with something like this? I’ve heard of nightmare syndromes as well as some other disorders that cause this but I’ve never really heard anyone talk about there dreams feeling like this or having these recurring themes as well as the time it feels these play out over.

Anything would help lol this is kinda random and if it’s incoherent I’m sorry I’ve never really made a post here😂😭
