How to grow online sales for a D2C food brand now?

We recently launched a Shopify store for our healthy sweets brand and honestly… getting traffic is much easier than getting actual sales.

Our niche is healthier Indian sweets (Ladoo, Peda, Barfi, etc.). The positioning is basically “health-conscious indulgence” — premium sweets without the guilt.

We’ve been growing organically on Instagram for around 5 months and reached ~1.1k followers, but converting that attention into website orders has been far harder than expected.

The more I research D2C in 2026, the more it feels like:

  • Meta ads are getting insanely expensive
  • Influencer pricing is inflated
  • Everyone says “build community”
  • But nobody explains what actually works early-stage

For founders/marketers who’ve scaled D2C brands recently:

What genuinely moved the needle for your first consistent online sales?

Was it:

  • UGC?
  • Founder-led content?
  • Meta ads?
  • Influencer collabs?
  • WhatsApp/community building?
  • SEO?
  • Retargeting?

Also curious:

Did your brand start growing only after one channel “clicked,” or was it multiple small things together?

Would genuinely appreciate real experiences from people building in D2C right now.

Trying to learn before burning money in the wrong places 🙌

How do newly started healthy food brands increase website sales in the beginning?

We recently launched a healthy food/sweets brand with our own ecommerce website, and right now our main focus is increasing direct online sales.

We also started an Instagram page around 5 months ago and managed to grow it organically to around 1.1k followers, but we’re now trying to understand how to convert that attention into actual website orders consistently.

Would genuinely love advice from people who’ve scaled ecommerce brands, food brands, or D2C businesses.

A few things I’d really appreciate insights on:

  • What channels worked best for getting your first consistent website sales?
  • Did Meta ads work early on, or should we focus more on influencer marketing and UGC?
  • What type of content converts best for healthy food brands?
  • How do you build trust when the brand is still new?
  • What mistakes should new ecommerce brands avoid in the beginning?
  • What helped you scale both online sales and Instagram growth together?

We’re still small, learning, and trying to build this properly from the ground up, so even small insights or lessons from experience would really help.

Thanks a lot 🙌
