I picked up a kitten from the street today because she was surrounded by 5 toms and clearly in heat. She seems to be a yearling and severely underfed, so I'm not confident that she's suited for pregnancy (and am a big advocate for spay/neuter/tnr).

I know that I might not be able to get her in for a spay promptly, so what's the latest I would want to get her in? Is it better to do it before the kittens start developing to reduce strain on her body?

Thank you for your help.
