I'm new to driving and need to travel via US 52 next week. INDOT has announced the following recently:
"Beginning on or after Monday, May 4, the following county roads that intersect with U.S. 52 will begin closing, with only a couple of closures occurring simultaneously:

  • Wyandotte Road
  • County Road 600 South
  • County Road 700 South
  • County Road 1000 South
  • County Road 1075 South
  • County Road 1200 South
  • County Road 450 South
  • County Road 700 South"

Does this mean they will close the whole intersection (US 52 + one of the roads above), or just the county roads? In other words, if I travel along US 52 and don't have to turn to any of those roads, will my travel be impacted?

HI! I was recently looking for a moving company to move out of state. I found this one company, reached out to them, and the representative suggested we have a video call to discuss my estimate. The call was done through their AI platform. I walked around my apartment with my phone, showing them the things that needed to be moved, and the person on the other end was capturing images of the items I showed. At the end of the call, the representative said that they require a payment of $100 dollars to issue me a binding quote. I now really regret that I agreed to pay. I just felt really off physically and emotionally on that day, and I think that totally clouded my judgment. So I made the payment.

Then, I received the document to sign (haven't signed it yet), and I just don't understand what exactly is binding about the quote I received. They gave me the number, but then they included the following clause: "This is a binding quote between {Company Name] and you to move the items discussed with your estimator. Any changes to the inventory, packing services required, or unforeseen conditions at the unload could result in additional costs." The document they gave me doesn't contain my items' inventory, and it doesn't include the square footage of the things that will be moved. I'm afraid that on the moving day, the movers may just tell me that they have a different inventory, and may demand a significant extra charge. I emailed the representative requesting clarification on the extra charges for each additional hour of work. He ghosted me for two days and texted me today asking me what time would be good for a call. I said that I just want to have my questions answered in writing, and he disappeared again.

So my questions are: 1) Does this "binding quote" sound fishy? I feel like it's a customer trap...but maybe I am wrong. I also should say that the reason this "binding quote" makes me so anxious was that after I paid $100 for the quote to be issued, I found out a number of bad reviews on TrustPilot saying that on the move day, people were charged 2-3 times more than they were promised (you then, again, never know for sure who is in the wrong...maybe people didn't give an exact inventory list to them).

  1. If people here think that "the binding quote" is bs, then do you think I have the leverage to get my $100 back? $100 dollars won't break my budget, but I just really hate being taken advantage of.
