Hi, I have a 9800x3d and an AsRock pro RS WIFI x870 board with the 4.10 BIOS(checking just now while writing this, I saw there's another newer version from a couple weeks ago I'll have to install, but my question still stands). OS is linux(Pop_OS 24.04), if that is at all relevant.

This setup has worked for quite a while now, but today I ran into some issues and I wanted to ask, if anyone can tell me, whether this may be related to the cpu deaths that had been reported a good few times before. I only ever read of peoples PCs dying, never of symptoms to look for that might announce the incoming death and mine still boots. It does still have the lagging issues while using a browser(I don't know how to better check for the issue, idk if dmesg, or anything else would show me anything valuable and I didn't want to risk another crash, or worse, while taking forever troubleshooting the issue on my own, not even knowing what to look for or how to look for it).

My pc showed some strange behaviour in that my browser lagged a bit and my game crashed once. The real issue though, was that after a while, I had a full on kernal crash with my screen showing nothing but artifacts afterwards. Sadly I didn't catch the exact crash code as the message was gone too quickly for me to catch it. My question is, has anyone else ever had issues like this before their cpu died? And are there any precautions I coukd take while trying to troubleshoot? Also where do I even look for anything that could have caused the crash?

I will be updating the bios ASAP and see if that changed anything but I might not be able to do this today. The cpu LED on the MB glows on boot, but I believe that is only during the probing(no an expert though). No MB-LEDs glow while the PC is running.

Thanks in advance, if more infos are needed I'll try to provide them.

Edit:

rest of the specs:

DE: Cosmic

HW:

Phanteks AMP GH 1000W ATX3.1 (80plus plat)

64gig Kingston fury beast 6000 cl30

2tb samsung 9100 pro m.2 2280

red devil 9070xt

No overclocking/undervolting or any changes to the cpu, or powersettings have been done in the bios.

Edit 2:

I ran furmark with an arifact scanner in fullscreen(which is the problem when using my browser) for 30mins, no artifacts, nothing unusual, no high temps and performance seems to be where it should be.

I also ran a memorytest for my RAM at 2 passes and no errors were found either.

Doesn't elimiminate the possibility that these might be the culprits, but im makes it much more likely that it is either cosmic de or something with my cpu(although I am doubting this more and more, I just havent performed any decent health checks on the cpu yet).
