I have been playing around with the new Steam Controller and I have realized that I truly despise steam input software. X-input is a million times better.

Steam layouts do not save. Controller isn't recognized half the time.

And most importantly, if Valve wants to enter the console/lounge room space, why on Earth did they decide to ship this product without a way to create a UNIVERSAL layout.

Who in their right minds at Valve thinks the average consumer (who is their target for the Steam Machine) will be keen to assign button layouts on a per-game basis. It is idiotic.

The controller is a solid 8/10. The software is a 1/10.

And without good software a controller is never going to be better than mediocre.

Valve needs to do better.

Too many great options for PC controllers out there that come with their own software that have multiple universal profiles you can switch on the fly, and the SETTINGS ACTUALLY SAVE.

It is actually embarrassing how bad steam input is.
