Nursing re- entry into practice and issues with APRAH

10 years out of nursing raising my family after 12 years as a critical care/emergency nurse at one of Melbourne’s biggest EDs.

Finally got offered a job back in healthcare — below my previous skill level as a school nurse — but after 4 months of forms, conflicting advice and phone calls, AHPRA have told me I need to complete an $8,000 re-entry course plus 160 hours unpaid supervised placement.

Has anyone actually fought this decision and successfully had registration reinstated another way (supervised practice/conditions etc.)?

Applications should be genuinely reviewed on an individual basis, taking into account a person’s qualifications, experience, and circumstances, rather than decisions appearing to be made solely through the blanket application of policy timeframes.

Feels like experienced nurses are being treated the same as brand new graduates despite years of senior clinical experience.
