Hi everyone,

I’m seeking technical advice for my Acer Aspire 5 (A515-58GM). I was using it while plugged in when it suddenly shut down and won't turn back on. Most importantly, the charging indicator LED is completely dead when the AC adapter is plugged in.

Troubleshooting steps taken:

Hard Reset: Held the power button for 60+ seconds (no response).

Internal Inspection: Opened the back cover; there are no visible burn marks, charred components, or acrid smells on the motherboard.

Battery Isolation: Disconnected the internal battery and tried to power it on using only the AC adapter. Still no indicator light and no power.

Visual Check: Checked the DC-in jack and cables; everything looks physically intact.

My Questions:

Since the charging LED is off even with the battery disconnected, does this confirm a short circuit on the primary power rail (19V rail) or a tripped protection MOSFET?

Is it possible that the Power Management IC or a shorted SMD capacitor is causing the system to stay in "protection mode"?

Based on these symptoms, is this usually a board-level repairable issue (like replacing a mosfet/capacitor), or am I looking at a total motherboard failure?

I also tried cleaning the fan 😞
