How to clean an electric oven with a top heating element
There is massive build up in my oven (it started smoking the last time I turned it on). The bottom heating element lifts up but the top heating element doesn't move and there is tons of buildup that needs to be cleaned off the top of the oven under the heating element. My owner's manual doesn't even mention the top heating element at all, and it doesn't appear to be designed to be removed.
I could probably use an plastic scraper and scrap some off in the space between the element and the top of the oven but it's going to get the heating element very dirty when it comes off and I'm not sure how much I'll actually be able to get off. I could gently wipe the heating element off after but it would probably be hard to make sure it get it all as there isn't a lot of space.
I'd appreciate any insight into cleaning the top of an electric oven with a top non removeable heating element. Thanks
