So my husband and I rent from slum lord. We knew this going in but we desperately needed a place to stay and the rent is relatively cheap. Most of the issues we've had are maintenance problems. Our gutter has leaked since we moved in winter of 2023 and it causes our basement to leak badly. Despite repeated maintenance requests put in on the app it is never fixed. They don't plow the driveway, they mow the lawn maybe three times a year but we put up with it because rent is cheap we have a yard we can have some play stuff in for our kids and we can have our pets.
We pay rent with an app and we have never had issues with this app before. Every year with income tax we pay two months worth of rent ahead of time because we get laid off in the summer and it's just easier to make sure it's taken care of ahead of time so that way we're not stressing about if we can or can't pay it. A couple weeks ago we got an email stating that they were switching to a new app and that within the week the old app would be closed. The old app did close and it took a week for the new app to get up and running. When we were able to log in the money we had in the account is gone. I've left voicemails I sent an email and I have not heard anything back about where this money could be. This is not money we had the option to withdraw from the account before it was closed and we have receipts stating that we paid this money and what the balance was at the end of March before getting the notice that they were changing apps. We are getting email reminders that we have not paid May's rent yet and while we know we have until the 10th to technically pay it before anything can be done we are hesitant to give any more money until we know where our balance has gone. I plan to stop into the office today but I don't trust them not to say that it's not their problem and we need to still pay rent or face eviction.
If it comes to that will all of the receipts and a screenshot of the app saying we have this money in the account be enough to prove we don't actually owe rent. We obviously plan to keep putting money aside for rent as we wanted this extra to be for the summer months but we don't want to look like we just accept that this money is missing if that makes sense.
