[HIRING] Senior Backend Engineer (Python/AWS) — Sports Data Platform (Remote | $3–4K/month | Contract-to-Hire)

We’re an early-stage consumer data platform in the sports vertical, already live and scaling fast. We’re looking for one senior engineer to work directly with the founder and take ownership of scaling, backend systems, and infrastructure.

This is a high-ownership role — not agency work, not a team engagement. You will be the primary engineer responsible for production reliability and scaling.

💰 Compensation

  • $3,000–$4,000/month fixed retainer
  • 40+ hours/week
  • Exclusive (no other active contracts)
  • Strong performance → full-time offer

🧠 What You’ll Own

  • API development: Production-grade REST/JSON APIs designed for real concurrent load
  • AWS scaling: EC2, autoscaling groups, load balancing for thousands of concurrent users
  • Database performance: PostgreSQL optimization, indexing, caching, connection pooling
  • Infrastructure: Monitoring, alerting, cron reliability, backend stability
  • Codebase ownership: Refactoring existing systems into production-grade architecture
  • Integrations: Third-party APIs (including messaging platform integrations)
  • Full-stack support when needed: Python backend, Node.js services, React frontend

✅ Required

  • 6+ years backend engineering experience (Python primary)
  • Proven AWS/EC2 scaling experience (real production systems, not tutorials)
  • Strong API design (REST, versioning, auth, rate limiting)
  • Deep PostgreSQL / database optimization experience
  • React + Node.js familiarity for full-stack work
  • Security fundamentals (OWASP, auth flows, secrets management)
  • Strong written English + async communication

⭐ Strongly Preferred

  • Sports betting / fantasy sports / odds / market data experience
  • Real-time / low-latency systems
  • ML/AI infrastructure or model serving at scale
  • Telegram Bot API experience

⚠️ AI Tooling Expectation

We expect you to be productive with tools like Claude Code or similar.

However:

  • You must understand every line of code you ship
  • You will be expected to explain your system in detail
  • No blind AI-generated code accepted
  • If you can’t walk through your own architecture, this role is not a fit

We value engineers who think, not just prompt.

📩 To Apply (required)

Please include ALL of the following:

  1. GitHub or portfolio (production backend work preferred; private walkthroughs ok)
  2. 2-minute video intro:
    • Who you are
    • One system you’ve scaled
    • Why you can commit full-time exclusively
  3. One paragraph describing a real scaling / performance / load issue you solved:
    • What broke
    • How you diagnosed it
    • What you shipped
  4. Confirmation of 40+ hours/week exclusive availability

🚫 Do NOT apply if:

  • You are an agency or subcontracting
  • You have other active contracts
  • You cannot demonstrate real production-scale work
  • You primarily rely on code you don’t fully understand
