How do you move from no experience to a professional career in GSO?
Hey everyone, I’m trying to break into the legal field (paralegal, legal assistant, internships, anything to get my foot in the door). I am in my last semester in college.
The issue is my resume is mostly waitressing/restaurant work. I’ve gotten good at multitasking, dealing with people, staying organized under pressure, etc., but I’m having a hard time getting anyone to take a chance on me for law-related roles or even admin-related roles.
I’ve applied to a few local firms and positions but haven’t had much luck so far. I’m not sure if I’m missing something or just approaching this the wrong way. I'm worried I'm going to apply to law school in a year or two and just have no work experience :(
For anyone in the Greensboro area or legal field:
- How did you get your first legal job or internship?
- Are there specific firms, offices, or organizations around here that are more open to beginners?
- Should I be looking into certifications, volunteering, or something else to build experience first?
I’m willing to start small and work my way up, I just don’t know where to start. Also this post isn't limited to just law-related jobs, just wanted to explain my situation, feel free to tell me about your experience moving into other fields!
Any advice would really help, thank you!
