I built a free VST host for live performance because high-end modelers didn't feel worth the money. Meet "Effects Canvas."
v 0.2.0 is now released! the download link is same.
Hi everyone,
After cycling through countless pedalboards and high-end multi-effects units, one question kept haunting me: "Is this actually worth the price?"
Let’s be honest—even the most expensive DSP in a floor unit can’t compete with the processing power of the laptop you probably already own. And while hardware effects are great, they often fall short compared to the high-end plugins we use in the studio.
That’s why I built Effects Canvas.
It’s a free, intuitive VST3 host designed for live use. I’ve just released the beta version and I'd love for you guys to try it out.
Download Here: https://effectscanvas.com/
Key Features:
- Drag & Drop: Load and route any VST3 plugins instantly.
- NAM (Neural Amp Modeler) Support: Fully compatible.
- IR Loading: Use your favorite Impulse Responses.
- MIDI Integration: Connect your MIDI foot controllers easily.
- Versatile: Optimized not just for guitar, but for vocals (Auto-Tune, Comp) and bass as well.
I’ve personally owned the Strymon "Big Three" and the Eventide H90, but in my experience, high-quality plugins win on tone every time.
My Personal Recommendation for a Free Setup:
- Grab some drive pedals from Tone3000 (they’re great and free).
- Use the free version of TONEX for amp captures.
- Load them into Effects Canvas and you’re good to go.
Since this is a beta, there’s no formal tutorial yet, but I’ve designed the UI to be as intuitive as possible.
I’d be incredibly grateful if you could download it and give me some feedback. If you find any bugs or want to reach out for business inquiries, feel free to email me at: contact@effectscanvas.com
Thanks for checking it out!
