"Glory to Russia! Glory to Heroes!" Poster of the Russian National Unity from the 1990s

Russian National Unity (RNE) is a Russian far-right paramilitary nationalist organization founded in October 1990 by Alexander Barkashov. The movement is known for its radical ideology, which combines elements of Russian nationalism and religious fundamentalism. RNE achieved its greatest influence in the 1990s, attracting between 20,000 to 25,000 members and participating in the October 1993 events in Moscow on the side of the Supreme Soviet. In 2000, a major split occurred within the organization, leading to the formation of several independent structures. Throughout the late 90s and early 2000s regional branches of the leftover organizations were officially banned by Russian courts for extremist activity. After 2014, representatives of various groups that left RNE took part in the armed conflict in eastern Ukraine on the side of separatists. Currently, the movement exists as small scattered groups and online communities, having completely lost its former political influence.
