Using PSX SMT I as the reference.

With obscure titles, I’d sometimes judge them by their pre-release Megabits (MEGs). More MEGs usually got me convinced—even excited—that the game wouldn't be half bad. That was mostly back when the system was still new. Just me, or did anyone else do that?

👆Example: comparing SFC "SD Art of Fighting" (SD Hiryu no Ken) Megs to SNES SFII Megs

Have you ever tried "rent-before-buy" for any games?

In the past, I used to rent games to play on the weekends. If I liked a game, I might rent it again, but most of the time, I wouldn't consider buying it. Lufia on the SNES was the exception—it was almost "love at first play." I saw an advertisement for it and decided to rent it; I loved it so much that I went out and bought a copy immediately after returning the rental. I think that was the only game I ever bought that way.
