Help with additional battery
Hey folks!
I'm here to ask for advice on an upgrade I'm plannig = mounting and connecting additional battery to my board to increase the range. Long version follows.
A bit of background:
I'm quite new to the hobby - bought my first board (Tynee Ultra with belt drive) last year and I'm loving it. Where I'm from there are not many quality roads // cycling tracks, so I decided to upgrade the board with an off-road kit to improve my comfort on rugged surfaces. It worked like a charm and I'm really happy with it, but it took a toll on the range which I'd like to extend with a second battery.
What I'm looking for is an easy project. Both easy enough for me execute and also easy on my wallet.
My thoughts so far:
- default battery is 13S - 54,6V - 374,4WH
- it currently gives me around 25 km (not great, I know, but good enough so far)
- I would buy a slightly bigger capacity battery directly from the same manufacturer as is the board (was thinking 13S 54.6V 468Wh Samsung 50S battery)
- key point here is that it is 100% compatible with the motors and ready to plug in
- and would mount it on top of the board between my feet
- I was thinking about doing a simple manual switch that would work like this:
- I ride using the default battery
- it runs out of power
- I stop, turn off the bord, click a switch to switch to the second battery
- (the first one gets disconnected)
- and I continue my ride using the secondary battery
What I hope to achieve:
- approximately 2x the range, obviously
- but also no shenanigans with custom built batteries
- no shenanigans with two batteries running in parallel
- good ratio on price // effort // output
- stopping to do a manual switch is not a problem for me at all
- also when I restart the board, the controller will update the battery status on the display, which is something I'd like to have
What I need your help with // advice on:
- Have you seen // done a project like this? Do you have any tips, documentations on the wiring, pictures, links for blogs documenting such projects?
- I have a friend who can help me with the wiring but I need to bring the solution to him. Ideally with some schema // document.
- Do you already see a problem with my approach? Something I need to look out for // be cautious about?
- Do you have a better deal on the battery off the shelf?
- The BATTERY CASE!
- now this here is a real trouble for me
- I would like to avoid custom 3D printed something, if possible
- (but I have access to a 3D printer if needed and it proves to be the most reasonable option)
- ideally I would like to buy an "off the shelf" case but all the ones that I've seen (Omni or Peli) are terribly bulky - I would love to see something compact
- the only idea I had was to buy original Tynee battery enclosure, but it still feels a bit too big to be placed between my feet
- And basically any and every piece of advice you'd like to give me on top of that.
Thanks a lot!
