I checked out Sanguisugabogg's most recent album after hearing good things. It's pretty brutal, groovy cave-man death metal, but what I didn't expect was the heavy Remission-era Mastodon influence.

2:15 into opening track "Rotted Entanglement" and it sounds like a long-lost passage from Remission: similiar sludgy, open string riffing, snare sound and drum fills. Many songs, especially on the front half of the album, have similar passages. I found an interview with the band that confirmed the Mastodon influence as well:  

>“We listen to all kinds of different shit, especially cool, melodic stuff. Drew and I, we like Deadguy and Fugazi and Daughters. In ‘Semi-Automatic Facial Reconstruction’ and—I can’t remember what another song—has a Blood Brothers-y riff. Which is so unexpected. (We) add little sprinkles of Remission by Mastodon."

If you're into death metal at all, I highly recommend the album. Plus, it was produced by Kurt Ballou, who is rumored to be the producer behind the next Mastodon album.
