I'm trying to connect a Sony DCR-TRV22E to a 2012 MacBook Pro via FireWire. I bought this camera for its analogue pass-through feature to digitise some VHS tapes using a VCR.
I have reset the PRAM and SMC, and the laptop has a fresh install of Catalina 10.15.
When I connect another mini DV camera (Panasonic PV-GS320) using the same 4pin -> 9pin cable, it works perfectly - I can see it registered in System Info, and I'm able to capture footage using Quicktime. I would use this camera, but it does not support analogue pass through.
When I connect the Sony, it registers on the camera screen ("DV-IN") but the computer does not register that it is connected, just listing "Maximum speed up to 800Mbps" in the FireWire section of system info. I've tried playing a VHS tape into the camera, and inserting a mini-DV tape and playing it, but the computer does not recognise it. The camera is powered on the mains adaptor without a battery.
I guess it's likely the camera's FireWire interface has stopped working, but just wondered if there's anything else I can try? The camera's FireWire socket is totally firm and tight, like it's never been used.
Thanks
