I crushed my index finger about a week and a half ago and have a bony mallet finger injury. My ortho indicated I may need surgery if it doesnt heal in a stax splint (the fracture impacts a large percentage of the joint but is minimally displaced), so I'm freaking myself out any time my finger aches or feels funny. My bruising is fading but it's definitely still swollen. I have a follow up in a week.

I'm wondering how do broken fingers (or even broken bones generally) feel as they heal? What level of pain and swelling is typical after splinting and how did it change over time for you? I'm very nervous about this and would really appreciate reading other's experiences with this type of injurry. Thanks in advance!
