Hi, everyone

I am new to thesis writing and I have to submit thesis to my university. I am dealing with lots of struggle and confusions. One of the biggest confusion is:

for example" If I open one article and started reading it, that author has also cited any other authors, so exactly what can I extract from that first author stating that he/she has claim that? Because as I said, that first author has also been cited other author. "

I am starting my Introduction chapter and for that I have to write definition, Background/context of my study. How can I find the information if I always find the article that always has cited another author?

I know I couldnot explain it properly, I would be thankful If anyone could help me with this.
