Please help me. My cat had mammary cancer and had a large tumor removed successfully. In a short follow up email, the vet said if new tumors pop up we will remove them.

We found a new tumor. We called the vet and she put her on the schedule for next week. I questioned the fact that she was scheduled right away and that we weren’t having a consult appointment. We went ahead anyway.

My partner dropped her off in the morning for surgery. Vet called in the afternoon to tell us they sedated her, only shaved her down and then realized they couldn’t go through with removing the tumor. No cuts made. We accepted that and started to think about enjoying the time she has left. Vet said she was awake and come pick her up, We could hear talking to her even.

My partner arrived to pick her up and the vet walks in and tells us our baby passed away. Vet said she walked back in to check on her and she was unresponsive. The whiplash and shock is devastating.

The vet said her best guess its a stroke or heart event that caused her sudden death. Maybe the cancer was more advanced. No real answers. Her pre op blood work and X-rays were normal. I didn’t understand why she was all alone in post op. It breaks me to know that she never needed to be sedated that day. I feel like I didn’t understand the risks. Not only this, but with all the red flags I start to wonder if there was negligence with the sedation medicine. She was doing the surgery on a discount for us and my cat was a previous stray that we brought in if that matters.

I just can’t help but feel like this never should’ve happened if we simply had a consult appointment. Is this wrong
