Hi! I (American) am currently in Japan on a tourist visa. I was hoping to come back in July and do a 6-week homestay, then begin a 6 or 8-month Japanese course after that. Since I will not be able to rely on a student visa while doing the homestay, I was thinking of doing another 90-day stay on a tourist visa, leaving the country, then coming back and using a student visa. Based on a quick search, it seems like doing 2 tourist visas in one year shouldn’t be a problem, but I don’t see any specific rules allowing/prohibiting it. Does anyone have experience with this? I anticipate I may get asked a few more questions at immigration, but since I’ll be following the rules of the tourist visa, I think it should be okay. Anyone think otherwise? Thanks!
