Advice sought...

I have owned a 2016 Subaru Outback 3.6R since 2021. The car has been good until the latest service found a big oil leak. Diagnosed as failing head gasket. Usual [specialist premium] mechanic recommends doing a full engine rebuild to a tune of $15000 - which is not happening.

What are my options, and how do you rank them?

  1. Sell privately with full disclosure. Car is drivable and currently not overheating / smoking.
  2. Sell to a Carma-type dealer with disclosure of issue. Would they even take it?
  3. Buy a second-hand engine, get a cheaper garage to replace the whole unit. Keep as second car or sell.
  4. Keep going til it dies a natural death.

Anyone else dealt with this kind of scenario?
