Does anyone else here with me/cfs experience REM sleep disorder? For example, kicking your legs or punching things with your arms in an active/scary dream (aka no sleep paralysis happening to your body)? Also talking or yelling in sleep? I have just seen some others with me/cfs say they have this as well and it makes me wonder what the connection could be. It could just be that a lot of us are neurodivergent which increases risk of REM sleep disorder in itself. But I wonder if since we have such an issue with fully resting/recovering, maybe our brains may not let our bodies enter sleep paralysis during dreams because our bodies simply don’t see the benefit anymore. Like I think sleep paralysis in dreams for a normal person evolved that way as a way for the body to completely rest and recover over night, but for us with such sick bodies that have dysfunction in recovering/healing overnight, the brain kind of says “well I’ll just shut this mechanism off then (sleep paralysis) since nothing seems to increase recovery or energy, so no use using brain power to paralyze the body overnight ”. Can anyone relate or have any ideas about this?

I’ve noticed that I have never had sleep paralysis when I lucid dream or regular dream. I constantly kick things off my bed while in an intense dream and constantly talk or yell out loud. Or if I am in a lucid dream, and I’m too hot or cold in my bed, I can literally pull my bed covers up or down while I’m still in the dream without waking up. Do you think this could be an effect of lucid dreaming? Since I am conscious while dreaming, maybe that part of my brain doesn’t paralyze my body? Has anyone else had a similar experience?
