I’ve been looking into how royalties are tracked for independent producers, and it’s frustrating. It feels like unless you’re a top 100 artist, you have to blindly trust whatever ASCAP/BMI or your PRO tells you.
Has anyone here actually managed to audit their own radio or podcast plays? I was thinking that with all the ACR (Shazam-like) tech available today, there should be an affordable way for us to get our own data/reports to hold these organizations accountable.
Would love to hear your experiences—do you feel like you’re getting paid accurately, or do you think a lot of our music is just 'invisible' to the current system? It's even worth trying to track this as an indie, or is the $10-20/mo cost of tech too high compared to what we’d recover?
