Feeling creatively stuck with pentatonic improvisation. Need advice.

Hi everyone,

I know the 5 pentatonic shapes and I’m currently working on memorizing the root notes for both the major and minor pentatonic scales.

The problem is that my improvisation still feels very boxed in and robotic. I move from one shape to another mechanically and even with bends, slides, vibrato, etc., it still feels directionless.

I feel like I’ve hit a creative glass ceiling. I keep repeating the same patterns and ideas instead of actually making music. I want to break out of that and learn how to create more melodic, emotional, and intentional solos rather than just running scales over backing tracks.

For those who got past this stage, what helped you the most? Ear training? Phrasing exercises? Learning solos by ear? Targeting chord tones?

Would love advice from people who went through the same thing.

Thank you <3
