Soo we're trying to mount a TV on the wall. I've done it before but the studs were already marked so it was easy. Now not so much

The stud finder goes off on the entire wall, no matter where we put it. What does this mean- we live in an apartment on the 3rd floor and the wall shares with a gas fireplace. Is it because of the type of wall? Or is our stud finder trash?

Is it safe to mount the TV wherever or not..
