Need a Level Up Project for May Cohort? Apply now!

Hi everyone! Are you interested or looking for a Level Up May Cohort project to do? If so, please consider applying to ours! I’m a project lead for SquirrelRidge.org, which is a federally registered nonprofit organization that focuses on community outreach, data analyzation and collection, and knowledge preservation for Indigenous communities across Canada. We also build online educational tools like maps and games! SquirrelRidge.org is focused on culture, including creating an Indigenous Place Names Map works with public sources to present the Indigenous toponymy of southern British Columbia in over 20 languages and dialects. This project supports and extends that reach to cover our newest project in Saskatchewan, applying the tools we have built to a new cultural and linguistic nexus.

So what will you do? Students aren’t expected to work unruly hours and hand in final deliverables that go beyond what a university student could reasonably produce. For this project, we’re asking students to work under a team manager (me), and any questions/concerns can be answered through either myself or passed to our executive director. This workstream will entail a supervised planning process whereby students research Saskatchewan and become familiar with the Indigenous communities and organizations therein. This project pays $1,400 upon completion and submission of final deliverables, and students must log milestones on their deadlines, as well as log 60 hours of work with an updated worklog, and answer one survey. Because you’ll be directly working with your team manager, you should have a clear and concise list of tasks that can be completed in a reasonable timeframe.

If you’re interested, please apply with us via the Level Up May Cohort and select SquirrelRidge.org!

What is the final deliverable? Students will assemble a proposed contact plan, including names of organizations and individuals. From there, after review and approval by the Executive Director, students will conduct email/phone/social media outreach to specific organizations and/or individuals with the intent of soliciting data, feedback, and potential conversations for the Executive Director and the Board.
